On the road with an Event Manager
In January 2019, I was lucky enough to work in collaboration with a local event management company on the Waitrose and Partners Supplier and Farming Conference, which took place at The Vox Birmingham.
The Vox was already booked directly by the client, so in this situation, we adopted the booking, taking over the management and existing relationships.
This would be the first time Waitrose and Partners had merged both their annual Suppliers and Farming conference. For us, that meant that both audiences would be brought together across the two days, and we would be communicating internally across several different departments. Being a well-known food retailer, the client brought in their food, and the venue chefs and operational staff were very accommodating in preparing, cooking and serving the dishes.
I was fortunate to work alongside a marketing and events freelancer, Harriet Scutt. We travelled together to Birmingham, and were quickly reminded how tiring working on-site can be. From long train journeys with no seats, to peak travel times, early mornings and late finishes - lucky for us, we had an endless supply of the gorgeous Waitrose No1 chocolate to keep our energy levels up after hours on our feet.
We remembered that it makes all the difference when you’re working with positive, hardworking and like-minded people. It also helps when the end client is happy with the planning and delivery, and there is a great sense of achievement when they take the time to thank you, it makes it all worthwhile! Overall the event was a huge success with only a few minor areas for improvement for 2020.
